The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce (MoC) recently held discussions on plans to establish a National Trademark and Brand Management Centre aimed at empowering Cambodia through a sustainable digital ecosystem.
The meeting, chaired by KOICA country director Choi Moon Jung and MIC secretary of state Ouk Prachea, centred on developing a strategic framework to enhance Cambodia’s digital governance. KOICA’s significant contributions to advancing digital governance in Cambodia were highlighted in the statement.
A team of Korean experts will conduct an initial feasibility study from November 18 to 22, 2024, to evaluate the project’s viability and devise a comprehensive implementation plan.
Jung emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce to ensure the project’s success, describing it as a pivotal initiative to strengthen Cambodia’s creative industries and economic resilience, paving the way for a digitally empowered future.
Prachea expressed gratitude to KOICA, commending the Ministry’s Department of Intellectual Property and the General Department of Commercial Services for their work on the trademark development plan. He noted that incorporating trademark data with artificial intelligence will support the development of Cambodia’s intellectual property system. The strategy is also set to enhance the branding of Cambodian products for both domestic and international markets, reinforce intellectual property protection and promotion, and encourage the registration of Cambodian geographical indications, Prachea added.
