According to Director Attaporn Sriheran, the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand has revealed the first 38 organizations to receive formal authorization to use the Moo Deng trademark on their goods and services. He stated that further trademark applications from Thai and international applicants are seeking approval, and the results will be made public soon.

The official logo featuring the famous open-mouthed pygmy hippo calf and the name Moo Deng, which translates to bouncy pig, was created by the winner of a ZPOT design contest after receiving the most online votes.

The director said that ZPOT’s primary goal in registering the Moo Deng trademark with the intellectual property department was to use the proceeds for the good of society and the welfare of animals in general, not to make money off of licence fees.

After a zookeeper shared pictures and videos of Moo Deng on social media, the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi province became the centre of attention. Her national and international renown has boosted the zoo’s daily attendance from 9,000 to over 170,000 people. As a result, the calf’s popularity is also helping restaurants and food vendors in and near the zoo.
