The European Patent Office (EPO) has launched a public consultation to gather feedback from stakeholders and reflect their various points of view into the upcoming strategic plan (2024–2028). Stakeholder input has always been essential for a strong patent system since it helps addressing consumer needs in a patent landscape that is constantly changing.

The new Strategic Plan 2028 will be centred on sustainability, with the only objective of creating a more sustainable European Patent Organisation and patent system that can support Europe's innovation ecosystem, economic growth, and competitiveness. EPO invites all stakeholders to comment on how to achieve this goal.

All interested parties, professionals from the intellectual property and innovation system, and members of the general public are invited to participate in the public consultation. All submissions will be thoroughly reviewed and then the Strategic Plan 2028 will be submitted to the Administrative Council of the European Patent Organisation in December 2023 for their approval.

Public consultation will be open until 15 May 2023.
