u-blox announced that the Hangzhou Intermediate People’s Court has ruled in favor of u-blox in separate copyright and patent infringement lawsuits the company filed against Techtotop Microelectronic Technology Co. Ltd. (TTT). The rulings found that TTT infringed on u-blox’s intellectual property in its TD1030 navigation chips and that TTT must pay damages (RMB 11 million).

In 2019, u-blox filed claims against TTT for both copyright and patent infringement after u blox noticed similarities of functionalities of TTT’ s TD1030 chip and corresponding modules with u-blox’s M8 GNSS receivers. Following in-depth investigations, including reviews and analyses conducted by independent laboratories, u-blox concluded that the similarities must have been the result of illegal copying of u-blox’s source code by Techtotop.

According to the Court’s decision, TTT must stop producing and distributing its TD1030 navigation chip and navigation modules with the infringing software.

“u-blox is very pleased with the decision of the Court which issued a fair and decisive ruling on a complex source code infringement case,” stated Thomas Seiler, CEO of u-blox. “Our technologies are the result of our commitment to continuous research and development, and it is our responsibility to vigorously pursue any and all unauthorized uses.”
