Sony has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against four organizations, including the Beijing Book Building, for nearly 10.6 million yuan for the unauthorized sale of Jay Chou and Michael Jackson albums. A court in Beijing accepted the case on July 14.

Sony claimed that it was authorized by relevant rights-holders to have exclusive rights to produce audio and video products of all the songs for certain Jay Chou and Michael Jackson albums on the Chinese mainland. However, Hunan Jinfeng Audio-visual Publishing House reproduced, published and distributed Jay Chou's albums without permission and conducted public sales inside the Beijing Book Building.

Sony explained that as Michael Jackson and Jay Chou have high social reputations and influence, their albums have sold well in the audio and video market. Therefore, Sony has sued for high compensation.
