Carrefou hypermarket in Ningbo of Zhejiang Province and a Shanghai-based textile producer have both lost a lawsuit that involved the sale of bedding with designs that infringed upon a painter's copyright, a Shanghai court ruled yesterday.
The Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court ruled that the textile firm's use of the pattern was unauthorized and infringed Lu's copyright. It ordered the textile firm to stop using the pattern and pay 20,000 yuan (US$2,600) in damages. The court imposed no fine on Carrefour, but ordered it to stop selling the products.
