On the morning of August 27, the Changping District People's Court made the judgment on six cases related to sales of pirated DVDs. The six criminals were sentenced to imprisonment, varying from five to six months, together with a fine of 1,000 to 5,000 RMB yuan respectively.
In early 2007, Wang Wei (an anonym) started to sell pirated DVDs in a market. When he was arrested, the officials seized a total of 1,600 pieces of pirated DVDs from his stall. The court established that Wang Wei had committed the crime of illegal business operation. He was sentenced to a five-month imprisonment and was fined of 5,000 RMB yuan.
The other five criminals also committed the crime of illegal business operation by selling pirated DVDs without the business license for audio-video products. The six cases involved a total of 11,000 pieces of pirated DVDs.
