Founder Group claimed compensation for infringement from Bizzard Entertainment

On August 13, the Founder Group announced that Beida Founder Electronic Co. Ltd. has instituted a proceeding before the Beijing Higher People's Court against the U.S. Bizzard Entertainment Co. for copyright infringement. Beida Founder claimed a compensation of 100 million RMB yuan from the defendant.

The Founder Group developed the Founder Fonts and owns the copyright of the special Chinese fonts. According to Founder, in the online game "World of Warcraft" developed by Bizzard Entertainment Co., the defendant reproduced and used the five types of Founder Fonts without any authorization, which infringed the plaintiff's copyright. Beida Founder estimated that such infringement caused a loss of one billion RMB yuan.

The online game "World of Warcraft" was developed by Bizzard Entertainment in 2003. In June 2005, Bizzard Entertainment authorized The9 Computer Technology Consulting (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.(shorted as The9 Limited), a famous online game operator in Shanghai, to operate the game in China. Therefore, The9 Limited was also listed as the defendant.
