Louis Vuitton's agent in China sued a store in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, for selling counterfeits of the luxury brand and demanded compensation of 332,000 yuan ($54,000). The local court imposed a fine of 12,000 yuan.
In November 2012, the agent purchased a fake handbag carrying the Louis Vuitton label. A lawyer asked the store to stop selling counterfeits, and further asked the shopping mall to conduct inspections to make sure other stores followed suit, according to a report in Huashang Daily.
But two months later, the agent found the same store selling counterfeits again and sued both the store and the shopping mall for trademark infringement.
The Intermediate People's Court of Xi'an rejected the large amount of money requested, saying the agent failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the alleged damage.
The city's high court recently upheld the original verdict.
