URMOND, NETHERLANDS --Polyethylene fiber maker DSM Dyneema has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against a Chinese manufacturer and an Italian distributor.
DSM Dyneema — based in Urmond — filed the suit in the Court of Milan in Milan, Italy. The suit targets Beijing Tongyizhong Specialty Fiber Technology & Development Co. Ltd. of Beijing and EOS 3 srl of Milan. Beijing Tongyizhong is owned by Sinotex Investment & Development Co. Ltd.
In a July 27 news release, DSM Dyneema officials said the suit reflects the company's zero-tolerance policy on patent infringement.
"We are committed in our pursuit to vigorously defend our intellectual property rights in all markets and business segments in which we are active," DSM Dyneema President Christophe Dardel said.
DSM Dyneema produces Dyneema-brand fiber — made of ultra strong PE — at sites in Heerlen, the Netherlands; Flaach, Switzerland; and Greenville, N.C. The product is used in ropes, cables and nets, as well as in bullet resistant armor and clothing. The business is a unit of specialty chemicals firm Royal DSM NV of Heerlen.
