The Administration for Industry and Commerce of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region conducted a survey to investigate geographical indications originating in its area. It required its affiliated offices to add relevant information on new geographical indications to an existing data base so as to better govern and protect them. It also promoted registering geographical indications as trademarks, a move to increase public awareness of protection. Moreover, it further enhanced market supervision and enforcement so that the rights of GI holders could be appropriately protected.
In addition, based on the newly revised Trademark Law, products bearing improper trademarks of geographical indications will be combated as infringing commodities.[Chinese version is available on bjpaa.org]
