On the morning of May 20, Seminar on National Traditional IP Protection Pilot Work was held at Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province,

This seminar is the first one since the opening of national traditional IP protection pilot work and marks the implementation of pilot work all over the country.

Director of Patent Management Department of the SIPO Ma Weiye attended the seminar and delivered speech on how to protect traditional knowledge.

"We have several ways to protect traditional knowledge. However, under current legal frame, IP protection is preferred. Apart from keeping the valuable part of traditional knowledge, our efforts aims to give full play to the potential economic and social value of it and make laborers who hold traditional knowledge have favorable benefits."

It was learnt that national traditional IP protection pilot work was launched from the year 2008, and Xixian from Anhui province, Yuzhou from Henan province and Sandu Shui Autonomous County from Guizhou province were chosen as first batch of pilot counties.

Lately, the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) approved other nine counties as national traditional IP protection pilot counties. [Chinese version is available on dahe.cn]
