Recently, China determined the list for the first batch of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) which would apply for the world intangible cultural heritage protection. 9 items are listed including Tongrentang Chinese Medicine Culture, Tibetan medicine, etc..
Liu Changhua, Director of the Institute of History of Literature under China Academy of TCM said that the 9 TCM declared can basically cover in the full scope of traditional Chinese medicine.
Liu also introduced that a special committee and expert group were established to prepare for the declaration work of world intangible heritage protection in October 2005. On the basis of in-depth research and demonstration, the committee determined the guideline and plan for Chinese medicine to apply world intangible cultural heritage protection.
