Undergraduate debate contest on copyright protection starts

Sponsored by the National Copyright Administration, 2008 undergraduate debate contest on copyright protection with the theme of "welcome the Olympics, face the world, protect copyright" was started in Beijing on July 13.
Over 40 debaters from 8 universities got together in the capital and held heated debates on hot issues of copyright protection.
Deputy Director of the General Administration of Press and Publication and the National Copyright Administration Yan Xiaohong said in his speech that with the development of knowledge economy and economic globalization, intellectual property has become the strategic resource of national development and the core element of international competitiveness. At the same time, it is also the support of constructing an innovation-oriented country and the key of acquiring development initiative.
The NCA is always committed to the popularization of copyright knowledge in the society and attaches special importance to the role of undergraduates in promoting copyright protection work, since they are the main force of future construction and the main body of innovation.
On the eve of the Olympic Games, the NCA expected to keep on and raise more enthusiasm of undergraduates in participation and synchronize with the international copyright circle in probing into copyright protection manners and methods under the conditions of new media and new technologies by the chance of the contest.
