China, UK sign MOU on trademark cooperation

Lately, Deputy Director of China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) Fu Shuangjian and Chief Executive of United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office Ian Fletcher signed the memorandum of understanding on trademark strategic cooperation.

This MOU indicates that the China and UK have established the general framework of bilateral trademark cooperation and the two sides will keep cooperation in all trademark matters.

According to the MOU, the two sides will continue to discuss the trademark review process, objections and disputes, geographical indications as well as other similar problems, exchange and share the common considerations in trademark laws, regulations, enforcement procedures, rules and documents, provide training in the above-mentioned areas, share the best practices in trademark program management and office automation, organize joint activities in international trademark issues, fully inform the trademark protection procedures, promote the use and understanding of trademark system and help SMEs to protect and make use of their trademark assets.

The MOU also makes provisions on consultation, amendment, legislation and international agreements. It is learned that the two sides will further refine the specific work and realize substantial cooperation in trademark strategy.
