On July 3, Guangdong Provincial Government examined and approved the "Guangdong Famous Trademark Identification and Management Regulations".
Officials said that the document will play a significant role in regulating famous trademark recognition, protecting legitimate rights and interests of famous trademarks owners and enhancing market competitiveness of the enterprises.
The "Regulations" clarify the conditions for famous trademarks and simplify the assessment procedures. According to the regulations, a Famous Trademark Review Committee will be established to separate assessment from authorization and guarantee convenience, authority and impartiality.
Also, regulatory measures will be taken to supervise the transfer, licensing and alteration of famous trademarks, so as to prevent the abuse of well-known trademarks and protect the legitimate rights and interests of trademark owners.
As of the end of 2007, the total number of registered trademarks in Guangdong Province has exceeded 380,000, ranking the first in China for 13 years. The amount of famous trademarks reached 108, also taking the first place in the country. [Chinese version is available on Chinanews.com.cn]
