Criminal Fined for Manufacturing Counterfeit Shoes

On July 4, the Jinjiang People's Court in Fujian Province sentenced Chen, who manufactured and sold counterfeit sports shoes, to a three-year imprisonment with a four-year suspended sentence and fined him of 500,000 Renminbi.

In August 2006, Chen employed several workers to manufacture, in a rented house, counterfeit sports shoes that bore representations of others' registered trademarks. In September 2006, the Jinjiang Administration for Industry and Commerce seized 2,010 pairs of counterfeit sports shoes bearing the trademark representation "NIKE" and 480 pairs of sports shoes bearing the mark "特步," involving a value of more than 900,000 Renminbi.

Since Chen manufactured counterfeit sports shoes of well-known brands and the circumstances were serious, the court convicted him of the crime of manufacturing and selling fake products and the crime of counterfeiting registered trademarks.
