Workshop on patent use in TCM & Tibetan medicine firms held in Tibet

Hosted by State Intellectual Property Office and organized by Intellectual Property Office of Tibet Autonomous Region, the workshop on patent use and IPR advantage cultivation in TCM & Tibetan medicine firms was recently launched in Lhasa.

Vice Director of Patent Affairs Administration Department under the SIPO Ma Qingyun, Vice Director of the Science and Technology Department of Tibet Autonomous Region Jiang Danping and Vice Director of local IP Office Jiang Nan took part in the meeting.

Jiang Danping expressed that in his report, under contemporary era background and international environment, how can the Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Tibetan medicine industry bring benefits to ordinary people and enable the development of traditional knowledge-based industries, in particular, how to provide IPR protection on TCM and Tibetan medicine, are very important and difficult problems in front of Chinese authority.

Also at the meeting, Vice Director Ma Qingyun hoped that this workshop will upgrade the strategic awareness of IPRs concerning domestic TCM and Tibetan medicine, elevate the strategic consciousness and ability in utilizing patent in the fields of TCM and Tibetan medicine, boost the development of relevant products, industries and firms, and foster independent IP advantages.

Deputies from IP offices of Tibet, Guizhou and Yunnan introduced the development situation of local folk medicine industry and the role of IPR management departments. And deputies from patent industrialization pilot bases and TCM (Tibetan medicine) enterprises exchanged their experiences with all participants. [Chinese version is available on SIPO.gov.cn]
