The International Trademark Association (INTA) has signed an agreement with Peru’s intellectual property office aimed at promoting and recognising IP in the country.

Peru has demonstrated consistent economic growth, social mobility and institutional and political stability, INTA said in a statement welcoming the MOU. Trademark registrations in the country have almost doubled since 2005, INTA added.

INTA’s chief executive Etienne Sanz de Acedo said: “Peru is currently undergoing its most progressive economic period in recent history. We must demonstrate to the Peruvian public the key role that trademarks play in their daily lives and in the national economy.”

Herbert Eduardo Tassano Velaochaga, president of the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI) added: “This agreement between INDECOPI and INTA will help facilitate the INDECOPI programme to enhance IP usage among small and medium-size businesses.”
