NOAPIP releases 10 influential numbers in 2011

The National Office against Pornographic and Illegal Publication (NOAPIP) released ten important numbers in 2011 on January 7, covering a series of special campaigns and rectification work deployed at the beginning of last year, indicating the achievements made in curbing illegal publications, putting down upon pornography information, seizing pornography CDs and unearthing infringing and pirated publications.

The whole nation seized 52 million pieces of illegal publications, more than 44.37 million in 2010. Of these seizures, pornographic publications were 1.33 million, infringing and pirated publications were 44.02 million pieces and illegal newspapers and periodicals were 4.74 million, which effectively purified the publication market.

18,000 or more cases were handled with across the nation, 1,717 cases involving pornographic publications and 10,932 cases concerning infringing and pirated publications. The case settlement effectively shocked offenders.

1,800,000
Websites across the nation worked off 1,800,000 pieces of vulgar information and shut down more than 1,200 illegal websites, channels and columns, which further purified network environment.

According to incomplete statistics, 97% of the county-level cities and counties set up offices against pornographic and illegal publications, and villages and towns as well as streets set up and consummated work system and mechanism on fighting against pornographic and illegal publications.

Beijing Pengxiang Hongtu Book Co., Ltd. produced and distributed pirated teaching materials and aids with a total price of 100 million yuan or more. 5 offenders were given 6 to 4 fixed prison terms and fined 3 million yuan to 300,000 yuan.

Relevant authorities closed down 15 CD production lines to crack down upon producing illegal and pirated CDs.

In the case related to the distribution of bawdry and pirated CDs in Guiyang City of Guizhou Province on May 18, over 340,000 pieces of illegal CDs were seized and the suspect named Yang Lanzhen was fined and sentenced to ten years in prison for committing the crime of selling bawdy publications.

157,000
The National Joint Report Center against Pornographic and Illegal Publications received over 157,000 pieces of report clues on illegal publications and online harmful information.
26,480,000
