Shanghai: An Intellectual Property Rights court has been set up in Yangpu District People's Court.
It is the third district court allowed to handle IPR cases in the city. It will handle all IPR case except disputes about patents, new plant varieties and integrated circuit designs.
Yangpu District is an area which hosts the most universities and science and research institutions in Shanghai. There are 17 universities including Fudan and Tongji and more than 100 institutions in the district. Shanghai Intellectual Property Park is also located in Yangpu.
The output value of the more than 2,600 technology-based companies in Yangpu was six billion yuan (US$822 million) in 2006.
The setting up of the IPR court is a measure to encourage company innovation and improve the investment environment, the court said.
